By Kirsten Hastings, 13 Apr 17

Worst countries

Mexico ranked bottom of the 32 countries listed, holding the dubious honour of having the lowest average annual wage and expecting employees to work, by far, the most hours.

Chile, Estonia, Hungary and Latvia round out the bottom five countries for earnings/work life balance.

The OECD comprises 35 member countries. Iceland, New Zealand and Turkey were not included in the report; however, no reason was given for this.

1 Luxembourg 12 France 23 Portugal
2 Switzerland 13 Sweden 24 Slovak Republic
3 Norway 14 Ireland 25 Greece
4 Netherlands 15 Finland 26 Poland
5 Denmark 16 United Kingdom 27 Czech Republic
6 United States 17 Spain 28 Chile
7 Germany 18 Japan 29 Estonia
8 Belgium 19 Italy 30 Hungary
9 Australia 20 Slovenia 31 Latvia
10 Austria 21 Israel 32 Mexico
