Three quarters of UK mortgage enquiries from offshore buyers, says deVere

20 Apr 15

Three out of four home loan enquiries received by deVere Mortgages in the first quarter of 2015 were from overseas buyers, led by those in Russia, Asia, the Middle East, and the US.

Three out of four home loan enquiries received by deVere Mortgages in the first quarter of 2015 were from overseas buyers, led by those in Russia, Asia, the Middle East, and the US.

London remains the most popular area for these potential property buyers.

DeVere Mortgages launched as a standalone brand in January this year and offers advice to British expats and foreign nationals looking to buy property in the UK.

Tom Elliott, deVere Group’s international investment strategist, said currency weakness against the dollar is making Britain relatively less expensive than it previously has been.

“For this reason, interest has been particularly strong from expatriates in Russia, the Far East, the Middle East, and the US.

“These individuals are taking advantage of the economic recovery, continuing strong demand for growth and limited new building due to planning rules.”

UK head of financial planning, Kevin White, added: “These individuals are increasingly aware that they are typically deemed as ‘high risk’ by UK lenders and will therefore need mortgage advice from industry experts who have established relationships with the relevant lenders.”
