Malcolm Couch is to become the Isle of Man government's next chief financial officer, taking over the position from Mark Shimmin who is to retire at the end of April.

Couch is currently Assessor of Income Tax for the island and is a well known figure within the financial services industry.

He has been in his current role for eight years and is credited as having played a major role in the development of the island’s tax regime, as well as boosting its international reputation.

On his new appointment Couch said: “The Island faces significant economic and financial challenges, but does so from a strong base.  I am confident that, working with colleagues across Government and building on my effective working relationships with the private sector, we can continue to forge ahead and deal with those challenges professionally and enthusiastically.”
