Bank of America-Merrill Lynch has reportedly appointed Margaret Ren, a prominent Asian banker and daughter-in-law of former Chinese Premier Zhao Ziyang, as its new chairman.

Bank of America-Merrill Lynch has reportedly appointed Margaret Ren, a prominent Asian banker and daughter-in-law of former Chinese Premier Zhao Ziyang, as its new chairman.

The South China Morning Post, this morning said it had seen an internal memo issued by the bank confirming Ren’s appointment.
Ren, who the SCMP said is clearly well-connected to the Chinese authorities given her family background, used to work at BAML before taking a post at BNP Paribas in 2009.

Prior to working at BAML, Ren was at Citigroup where she was suspended by the bank over an inquiry into the 2003 IPO of China Life Insurance, in which she played a key role.
