Menon reappointed MD of Singapore’s financial regulator

By Kirsten Hastings, 31 May 17

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (Mas) has reappointed Ravi Menon as managing director for a further two years, effective from 1 June 2017.

Menon was first appointed managing director in April 2011, having started his career at the regulator in 1987.

Between 1987 and 2003, Menon was involved in monetary policy; econometric forecasting; organisational development; banking regulation and liberalisation; and the integrated supervision of complex financial institutions.

He spent a year at the Bank for International Settlements in Basel, Switzerland, as a member of the secretariat to the Financial Stability Forum.

In 2003, Menon was seconded to the Ministry of Finance as deputy secretary, where he was responsible for fiscal policy and government reserves until 2007.

He then became permanent secretary at the Ministry of Trade & Industry (2007-2011), where he led the department’s work in economic strategy; industrial development; energy policies; research and development; and international trade agreements.
