Withers teams up with NY lawyer on citizenship by investment

By Will Grahame-Clarke, 6 Feb 18

A New York lawyer and an international law firm are joining forces in a venture aimed at internationally mobile high net worth individuals looking to secure additional citizenship or residency rights through investment programmes.

Where next for Roman Abramovich's UK visa?

Withers Global Advisors (WGA) is a joint venture between Withers and New York-based immigration law expert and Withers partner Reaz Jafri, who will act as chief executive.

WGA will assist clients looking to take advantage of programmes offering citizenship or residency by investment, which gives them and their family the right to live in another country.

Jafri, who has worked as an immigration lawyer for 25 years, said: “In today’s world, our clients face increasing political and economic uncertainty and, in many parts of the globe, threats to the personal safety of their families and themselves.

“Taking up residence or citizenship in another country mitigates these risks and provides additional options and choices. An increasing number of countries offer the opportunity to gain residence or citizenship through investing in national development funds or specific projects.”

Margaret Robertson, chief executive of Withers, added: “We are very proud to play a part in the creation of this important new business venture. As the world becomes ever more inter-connected, we believe that high-quality advice on the different ways to acquire dual nationality will be increasingly sought after.”
