By Francis Nikolai Acosta, 20 Feb 18

The emerging markets optimist is reportedly starting his own fund management firm and has also joined the investment committee of Mumbai-based venture capital firm Equanimity Investments, according to local media reports in India.

The emerging markets optimist is reportedly starting his own fund management firm and has also joined the investment committee of Mumbai-based venture capital firm Equanimity Investments, according to local media reports in India.

Mobius retired from Franklin Templeton last month after spending 30 years with the firm.

The emerging markets veteran said he still has no plans to retire, according to a report from Indian news source Livemint, quoting Mobius at a media event in Mumbai.

Mobius is now applying for fund management licences in London and Luxembourg and plans to launch an open-ended, long-only fund that will invest in emerging and frontier markets.

The fund will also invest in companies that are focused on ESG issues, according to the report.

Mobius was in Mumbai to announce his participation on the investment committee of Mumbai-based venture capital fund Equanimity Investments, in which he is an investor.

Equanimity Investments was set up by Rajesh Sehgal, who is also an ex-Franklin Templeton fund manager, according to Indian newspaper Business Today.

Sehgal was previously Franklin Templeton India’s head of private equity for South Asia, Middle East and Africa, according to his Linkedin profile. He joined Franklin Templeton in 1999 and left in February last year.

Sehgal has been working with Mobius since he joined the firm, he said in his profile.
