PEOPLE MOVES: Columbia Threadneedle, Deutsche Bank WM, Barclays

Asset manager CIO resigns, as German bank hires managing director for China

Columbia Threadneedle

The US asset manager’s chief investment officer for Emea has stepped down after nine years in the job.

Mark Burgess has decided to take a career break, effective from 28 September 2019.

William Davies, the current global head of equities, will take over the c-suite role.

Davies has been at Columbia Threadneedle since 1994, when he joined as a European equities portfolio manager. He has worked in senior positions within the equity space since 1999.

Deutsche Bank WM

The wealth management arm of the German bank has appointed Jeffrey Yen Chieh Peng as managing director, head of China onshore wealth management, effective from 2 September 2019.

Yen will be based in Shanghai to oversee the Chinese wealth management business.

He was previously a managing director and head of strategic alliance and IAM excellence centre for greater China and North Asia at Bank of Singapore.

Barclays

Ben Waterhouse has been named head of distribution for savings, investment and wealth management in London, effective from 2 September 2019.

Waterhouse joins from Fidelity International where he was global head of intermediary distribution, digital wealth.

Close Brothers AM

The UK-based asset manager has hired Paul Denman as private client director to bolster its high net worth client offering.

He joins from Artbuthnot Latham where he was a director in the private banking arm of the business for 14 years.

Alpha FMC

Paul Tan has been named a director of the asset and wealth management consultancy in Singapore.

Previously, he was a managing director of Greenwich Associate’s Asia Pacific business for five years.

XPS Pensions Group

The UK-based pension consultancy has made two senior promotions.

Ben Gold has taken over as head of investment from Patrick McCoy, who has been appointed head of advisory for the pensions and investment business.

Gold was previously head of investment for the firm’s Leeds office.

Gresham House

The London-based specialist asset manager has hired Richard Staveley for the newly created role of managing director in its strategic public equity team.

He joins from Majedie Asset Management where he spent six years running small companies’ investments within the firm’s UK equity offering.

Lombard International Assurance

Stephanie Wells has been promoted to director of partner and client services within the firm.

She has worked at Lombard International Assurance for over 25 years, starting her career in the client services team.

AMP

Anne-Marie Paterson joins the Australian financial services firm as group whistleblowing officer.

Before starting at AMP, she was the executive manager and whistleblower investigation officer at CBA.

Patterson will be responsible for leading whistleblower awareness, training and governance across the Australian company.

The Pensions Ombudsman

The UK Department for Work and Pension (DWP) has confirmed Caroline Rookes’ appointment as interim chair of the Pensions Ombudsman.

She was the chief executive of the governmental organisation Money Advice Service from 2013 until 2017.

Before that, she was director of private pensions at the DWP.
