By Kirsten Hastings, 22 Jan 21

Private bank bolsters Hispanic America team, while rival doubles down on its ESG strategy

Julius Baer

The Swiss private bank has hired six relationship managers to drive growth in Hispanic America.

The group will form a team under the leadership of Philipp Frischknecht, who will report to Andrea Cuomo, sub-region head Hispanic America; which includes Chile, Argentina, Peru and Colombia, among other markets.

The team will operate from Zurich.

Frischknecht joins from Credit Suisse where he headed the private banking international segment for Latin America.

He will be joined by senior relationship manager Rodolfo Lizarraga Delgado, who previously worked at BBVA; along with relationship managers Ricardo Amorin, Jurgen Ritz, Horacio Ruiz Moreno and Alejandro Moreno Basols who all also worked at Credit Suisse.

Credit Suisse

The Swiss bank has made five appointments to grow its ESG strategy team.

Michael van der Meer, Angela Saxby, Sina Dorner-Müller and Timothy Oehmigen will join the bank from Robeco; while Karim Sayyad will join from Nordea.

In their new roles, they will join the existing team of specialists who are responsible for the development and oversight of Credit Suisse’s ESG Investment Framework, and who have built the ESG Hub which acts as the bank’s centre of expertise.

In addition, they will advance and consolidate Credit Suisse’s ESG practices and procedures, support an integrated ESG house view by industry sector, provide opinions on single securities.

Van der Meer will act as head of ESG analysis and lead the team. He was most recently head of sustainable investment research at Robeco.

Based in Zurich, they will report into Daniel Wild, global head of ESG strategy.

Manulife Hong Kong

As part of the expansion of the firm’s distribution capabilities in Hong Kong and Macau, Ivan Chan has been promoted to chief agency officer and Tracy Leung hired as chief partnership distribution officer.

Chan joined the company in 1999 and assumed the CAO role on 1 January. He succeeds Kareen Chow who retired after 30 years with Manulife.

Leung brings with her 24 years’ industry experience, having most recently been managing director, head of bancassurance at Standard Chartered Bank.

Jupiter Asset Management

Abbie Llewellyn-Waters has been appointed to the new role of head of sustainable investing.

With over 15 years of sustainable investment experience, she has managed the Jupiter Global Sustainable Equities fund since inception.

Llewellyn-Waters will lead the firm’s sustainable investing capability, while retaining a clear focus on managing the global sustainable equity strategy.

Feeding into the work of Edward Bonham Carter, who has taken on a new role focusing on the company’s stewardship and corporate responsibility activities, she will continue to play an important role in shaping best practice across the business.

In addition, fund manager Rhys Petheram has been promoted to the new role of head of environment solutions.

The changes were driven by the decision of head of strategy, environment and sustainability, Charlie Thomas, to leave Jupiter after 20 years with the company.

Following Thomas’ departure, Jon Wallace will be promoted to fund manager, taking over responsibility for the Jupiter Ecology Fund, Jupiter Responsible Income Fund and the equity segment of the mixed asset Jupiter Global Ecology Diversified fund.

Wallace worked with his predecessor for more than 10 years.

EdenTree

Charlie Thomas’s departure from Jupiter will quickly be followed by him joining EdenTree as chief investment officer in the second quarter of 2021.

One of his first tasks will be reinvigorating the firm’s product range and make it ready for the next phase of growth as it seeks to expand its influence in the responsible and sustainable investment space.

Thomas will take over from Sue Round, who has held the role on an interim basis following the departure of Robin Hepworth last year.

Netwealth

In another spill-over from changes at Jupiter Asset Management, Edward Bonham Carter has been named chairman of wealth manager Netwealth.

Bonham Carter spent 25 years at Jupiter, culminating in seven years as group chief executive and six years as vice chairman.

RBC Wealth Management

Gail McCourt has become head of private client fiduciary services for the British Isles business of RBC Wealth Management.

She has been tasked with leading the fiduciary management and technical trust teams in the Channel Islands, providing solutions to help clients preserve their wealth and create a meaningful legacy.

Based in Jersey, she will report to RBC Europe chief executive Dave Thomas.

McCourt joined RBC in 2003 and has held a number of roles; including head of marketing, head of regional market and head of client experience. Most recently, she was head of fiduciary management.

IQ-EQ

The investor services group has promoted Frederique ‘Freddy’ Meyer to deputy managing director of its Switzerland business.

Based in Zurich, she joined the group’s private wealth division as a director in 2014.

Brewin Dolphin

The discretionary wealth manager has named Davina Rich as head of research, succeeding Guy Foster who has become chief strategist, both with immediate effect.

Rich joined the firm in 2019 as investment director, having spend over 20 years in the investment management industry as an analyst, institutional asset manager and private client investment manager.

Foster moves from head of research to lead the investment solutions team.

Alpha FMC

The asset and wealth management consulting firm has hired Keith Aylwin as a director in the pensions and retail investment leadership team, with a focus on technology and transformation.

He joins from EY, where he led the life and pensions technology transformation practice for five years.
