UK wealth manager hires establishment commercial director, as regulator names interim CEO

St James’s Place

The UK wealth manager has hired Scott Stevens as establishment commercial director.

Stevens was previously head of adviser recruitment and acquisition at Quilter Financial Planning.

At SJP, Stevens will develop the firm’s academy.

Isle of Man Financial Services Authority (IoMFSA)

Colin Manley will become as interim chief executive of the regulator, effective from 2nd August.

He will remain in situ until the new chief executive arrives, which the regulator expects will be before year-end 2021.

Manley is head of division for insurance, pension and fiduciary services.

He takes over from Karen Badgerow, who left the chief executive role to return to Canada.

Gam Investments

The investment firm has hired Nicholas Tan as associate director based in Singapore.

He joins from Capital International, where he spent three years as part of the business development team, with a focus on financial intermediaries in Singapore and southeast Asia.

Also, the firm has named Wendy Chen as a senior investment analyst and Pieran Maru as an investment analyst on the disruptive growth team led by Mark Hawtin.

Chen will join GAM in August from Welight Capital, a family office for one of the founding partners of Tencent. Maru joins the team from GAM’s compliance function, where he has spent the last five years.

C Hoare & Co

The UK private bank names Simon King as senior relationship manager to lead its expansion in the north west of England.

He was most recently he was a senior relationship and business development manager at Allied Irish Bank (AIB) in Manchester.

Investec Wealth & Investment (IW&I)

Sam Wright has been promoted to head of its Bristol office.

Wright was previously a senior investment director in IW&I’s Bristol office, having relocated from the London office in 2019 and has been with Investec since 2005.

Boston Multi Family Office

The financial services firm has promoted two employees to assistant manager roles in the client services team at its Isle of Man headquarters.

Sheila Jackson has worked at Boston since 2013 when it acquired Isle of Man Financial Trust, while Rachel Booth joined in 2018, having worked in the industry since 2011.

HSBC Asset Management

The asset manager has appointed Taras Pushak as portfolio manager for its emerging markets debt (EMD) investment team.

Pushak joins from APG Asset Management, where he was a senior portfolio manager.

Lombard Odier Investment Managers

Erika Wranegard has joined as portfolio manager within the firm’s fixed income team.

She previously worked at Swedish sustainable asset management firm, Öhman, where she managed its Crossover Green Bond and Investment Grade Sustainable Credit strategies since 2016.

Financial Conduct Authority

The UK regulator has appointed David Scott as its interim general counsel.

The announcement follows the recent departure of general counsel Sean Martin.

Scott was most recently a litigation partner at Freshfields before retiring from the firm in October 2020.

Daniel Thornton, currently director of enforcement legal, has also been appointed as deputy general counsel and will support Scott.

Also, the FCA is planning to appoint Raj Parker as part-time senior legal adviser.

Parker is an associate member at Matrix Chambers and a part-time judge and arbitrator.
