PEOPLE MOVES: Brooks Macdonald, Rathbones, Allfunds

By Robbie Lawther, 20 Jan 23

CFO and COO to leave wealth manager, as investment firm hires chief client officer

Brooks Macdonald

The wealth manager has announced that chief financial officer Ben Thorpe and chief operating officer Lynsey Cross will depart in the coming months, with both leaving the company’s board immediately.

Thorpe has been chief financial officer since August 2018, having joined after four years as head of finance at Brewin Dolphin. The search for his successor is underway, and he will continue in the role until one is found.

Cross joined as chief operating officer in May 2020, having held the same role at insurance provider Amtrust International. She also spent four-and-a-half years as chief executive of ANV Group.

Much of the operational side of the business is now outsourced, so the directors do not currently intend to appoint a board-level replacement for Cross.

Rathbones Group

The UK investment manager has named Anne-Marie McConnon as chief client officer.

She will join the company in May 2023 from BNY Mellon Investment Management, where she held the position of global chief marketing and client experience officer.

Allfunds

The wealthtech platform has appointed Tom Wooders as UK country head.

Prior to Allfunds, Wooders was group head of sales at Titan Wealth with responsibility for business development across all of Titan’s entities including Titan Asset Management, Titan Wealth Solutions and GPP.

Credit Suisse

The banking group has named Edwin Tan, the incumbent market leader for wealth management in Thailand, as the new head of the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam, according to an internal memo seen by our sister publication Fund Selector Asia.

He will continue to be based in Thailand and take on additional responsibilities, starting 1 February.

Tan will report to Benjamin Cavalli, the head of wealth management for Asia Pacific at Credit Suisse.

The market leader for the Philippines, Sacha Eugster, will report to Tan after the organisational change.

In his expanded role, Tan will spend time in Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand and the Philippines.

The current market group head for the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam, Marcus Sloor, will be relocating back to Europe for family reasons and pursuing a new opportunity within the bank after spending nine years in the Singapore office, according to the statement.

Charles Stanley

The wealth manager has hired four financial planners across the UK.

Harry Bell joins the team in Manchester from Close Brothers Asset Management. John Moseley will join the Charles Stanley’s Leeds office from Allots Chartered Accountants, where he was an IFA.

Stephen Hughes also joins Charles Stanley in Edinburgh from Schroders Personal Wealth, and Gary Quick joins the Exeter office from Francis Clark Financial Planning.

Mediolanum International Funds

The European asset management platform of Mediolanum Banking Group has named Giorgio Carlino as head of multi management.

He has 22 years of experience in the industry and has held a variety of roles in his career, including fund of funds portfolio manager for Commerzbank, portfolio manager at RAS Asset Management in Milan, and multiple roles at Allianz Global Investors, including, most recently, global chief investment officer for multi-asset strategies.

Carlino succeeds Bish Limbu who will continue to serve as an adviser to the firm working closely with the multi manager team.

Boal & Co

Erica Power has joined the international retirement benefit solution provider as head of business development at its Gibraltar office.

She joins Boal & Co from Abacus Financial Services in Gibraltar.

Walker Crips Group

The financial services firm has hired Shane Bennett as head of investment strategy.

He joins from Exeter-based Cathedral Financial Management, where he joined in July 2012 as a research analyst and rose to head of investment.

Affinity Private Wealth

The Jersey-based firm has hired Elizabeth Shaw as associate director in its trust team.

Shaw joins from Bedell Cristin, where she was a senior associate.

Axa Investment Managers

Olivier Paquier has been appointed global head of ETF sales, effective immediately.

He was previously at State Street and JP Morgan Asset Management.
