Abrdn global head of diversity and inclusion dies

By Robbie Lawther, 30 Jan 23

Lynne Connolly was an ‘inspirational colleague, leader and role model’

The head of global diversity, inclusion, and belonging at Abrdn, Lynne Connolly, has died following a battle with a long illness.

Connolly was at Abrdn and Standard Life Abrdn since 2006.

Her family confirmed her death via a LinkedIn post: “Lynne’s family share this message to let all her wide circle of friends, relatives and colleagues know that she passed peacefully at Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, on 26th January, 2023, after her long illness, borne with inspirational courage.

“As everyone knows, her family and friends meant everything to Lynne, and as a family, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks for all the love, friendship and support which helped to sustain her over the last decade and more.”

‘Tragic loss’

Abrdn posted on LinkedIn: “Everyone at Abrdn would like to express their sadness at this news and our thoughts are with Lynne’s family and friends. Lynne was an inspirational colleague, leader and role model to so many and will be deeply missed.

“Her passion and determination in shaping the DEI agenda has had a lasting impact on our business – we have so much to thank her for. We remember her for her kindness, empathy and the positive influence she had on so many.”

Stephen Bird, chief executive at Abrdn, added: “Incredibly sad news. Lynne lived and worked with passion, empathy, courage and grace and we will miss her deeply at Abrdn plc. We will also work to honour her legacy of equality and inclusion for all. I am honoured to have known Lynne and was awestruck by her strength. RIP Godspeed. Deepest condolences to her family and friends.”

Barry O’Dwyer, group chief executive of Royal London, said: “She was definitely one of life’s joy-spreaders and she lightened the day of everyone she interacted with. She was also extremely good at her job. A tragic loss.”
