Set to lose its UK Smaller Companies veteran, Royal London Asset Management has nabbed a senior fund manager from Axa Framlington as a replacement. Legal & General has appointed a Mastertrust trustee and government committee member, while Mercer Jelf has named its new head.

Royal London Asset Management

After 17 years with RLAM, Victoria Stewart, manager of its UK Smaller Companies fund, has resigned from her position to pursue new challenges.

Her successor has been named as Henry Lowson, who will be joining from Axa Framlington as a senior fund manager.

Stewart will leave RLAM on 9th September, with Lowson joining on 1st September. He will work closely with Derek Mitchell, manager of RLAM’s UK Mid Cap and UK Opportunity funds, as well as the wider equities team to expand RLAM’s Alpha strategies within the UK equity market.

Lowson joined Axa Framlington in 2005 and was appointed lead manager of the Axa Framlington UK Smaller Companies fund in May 2012.

Legal & General

Ali Toutounchi has been appointed as a trustee of the Legal & General Mastertrust and a member of the Legal & General Independent Governance Committee (IGC).

Toutounchi, who has worked at Legal & General for over 20 years, was formerly managing director for Legal & General Investment Management’s global index funds. He will also become the chairman of the Mastertrust’s investment committee.

Mercer Jelf

The Marsh & McLennon subsidiary has appointed Grant Hughes to lead recently launched Mercer Jelf, which combines the financial planning teams of both companies.

A chartered financial planner, with experience of designing and implementing financial planning propositions, Hughes joins with a background in both regulated wealth management and employee benefit consultancy

He will focus on continuing the integration of Mercer and Jelf; including aligning the proposition to Mercer Harmonise, a digital platform launched by Mercer in 2015, which draws together all of an employee’s pensions, insurance and health data – allowing easy planning and management of personal financial and health goals.

Suncorp

John Nesbitt, chief executive of Suncorp Group’s banking and wealth division, has announced his retirement. Nesbitt joined the Australian insurance and pensions group in May 2010 as chief financial officer.

He will leave Suncorp during the second half of 2016. An internal and external search is currently underway to find his replacement.

Kames Capital

Graeme Sharpe has been hired as product specialist within the firm’s multi asset team. He joins from pensions and benefits consultancy Hymans Robertson where he spent five years as an associate investment consultant.

In his role as multi asset product specialist based in the company’s Edinburgh office, Sharpe will work closely with Kames’ fund managers, institutional and wholesale sales teams as well as client services, as the firm continues to broaden its client base in the UK and continental European markets.
