Some of the biggest firms in the finance industry announced significant people moves this week; with Prudential naming a chief executive, HSBC GAM making two chief executive appointments in Asia, and JP Morgan promoting a new head of retail in China.

Prudential

John Foley has been named chief executive of Prudential UK & Europe and an executive director of Prudential with immediate effect.

Foley was appointed interim chief executive in October last year, having previously served as group investment director, group chief risk officer, and in senior investment and risk management positions since joining Prudential in 2000.

Foley retains responsibility for Prudential Capital and Prudential Portfolio Management Group.

HSBC Global Asset Management

Puneet Chaddha has been appointed chief executive of Singapore and head of southeast Asia for HSBC AM. Chaddha was previously chief executive of HSBC AM India. He succeeds Kalen Lim who is moving to another unspecified senior role within HSBC.

Chaddha will support the wealth management and investment needs of HSBC’s key clients in Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines. Based in Singapore, he will report to Pedro Bastos, chief executive of HSBC AM (Asia Pacific) and Matthew Colebrook, head of retail banking and wealth management at HSBC.

Chaddha’s replacement has been named as Ravi Menon, who has been promoted to chief executive of India from his current role of head of strategy and planning for HSBC India. He joined the firm’s capital markets business in 1998.

JP Morgan Asset Management

JP Morgan AM has promoted Henry Tong to the position of head of retail of China, replacing Richard Mo. Tong has been tasked with building JP Morgan’s presence in the Chinese retail space, identify new opportunities, develop new product ideas, and widening the company’s offering through various channels.

He will be based in Hong Kong.

Tong’s previous role, head of private bank distribution, has not yet been filled.

Praemium

Australia-headquartered platform technology provider Praemium has appointed Ben Lester from Brooklands as regional sales manager to cover the UAE and Africa.

Lester’s appointment follows Praemium’s appointment of Barry Honeyman (formerly of Old Mutual) as regional sales manager covering Europe. Andy Barlow, who joins the team from Praemiums Melbourne office will support Honeyman in building client relationships in the region.

Chris Law from Zurich also joins the London-based team this month to focus on UK clients.

Momentum Pensions

Pension specialist and independent pension trustee Momentum Pensions has appointed Paul Forman to its UK board. Forman joined Momentum in January 2015 and holds the position of head of sales – UK and Europe.

He has over 20 years’ financial services industry experience and is a chartered financial planner and holds fellowship status with the Personal Finance Society. Forman has extensive domestic and international experience gained in earlier senior sales with London & Colonial in the UK, Boal & Co in the Isle of Man, and for Friends Provident International in Asia.

Pictet Asset Management

Pictet Asset Management has named Niall Quinn as the global head of institutional business (excluding Japan). Based in London, Quinn will assume his role at the end of February. He replaces Christoph Lanter, who retires after 17 years with Pictet AM.

Quinn has over 20 years’ experience in the industry, most recently as managing director of Eaton Vance Management International, responsible for all their operations outside North America. His focus was institutional business development.

Pictet AM also announced the appointment of Cyril Benier as a senior investment manager in the small cap equities team. Benier was previously at Axa Investment Managers, where he had managed small cap portfolios since 2008. Before Axa IM he worked at Natixis.
