Manulife has appointed a new chief executive and president for the Asian arm of the firm following the retirement of Robert Cook.

Roy Gori is to join the company’s executive committee, taking the place of Cook who is retiring after 7 years as head of Asia and a 36-year career at Manulife.

Previously Gori – who will be based in Hong Kong – was head of the consumer banking sector in the Northern Asia and Australian branch at international bank Citi where he was responsible for insurance and wealth management.

Prior to that he worked for Citibank Australia where he oversaw various credit card and consumer loan companies across Asia.

Manulife Asia has more than 9,600 employees and 53,000 agents, contributing to around a third of Manulife’s total earnings.

In November the company reported strong sales in its Asia division, which outperformed growth in its other regions. Click here to read more.
