Asset management firm Algebris has appointed former Bank of England (BoE) deputy governor sir Jon Cunliffe as non-executive director and chair, subject to regulatory approval.

Cunliffe brings a wealth of experience in senior public service and financial policy at the Bank of England, as well as in governance and oversight within the UK financial system.

He will work closely with the board and executive team to support the Algebris’s UK strategy and its long-term growth.

Cunliffe was the deputy governor of the BoE with responsibility for financial stability from 2013 to 2023, and sat on the Bank’s Financial Policy Committee, Monetary Policy Committee, as well as the board of the Prudential Regulation Authority. He was second permanent secretary at the Treasury from 2002 to 2007.

Davide Serra, founder and CEO of Algebris Investments, said: “Sir Jon’s appointment further strengthens our governance framework and board leadership. We are delighted to welcome him and look forward to working together to support Algebris’ continued growth and long-term value creation.”

Cunliffe said: “I am very pleased to be joining Algebris Investments, and I look forward to working with the board and the team to support the business on the next stage of its journey and in delivering the best value for its investors.”
