Busting cohabitation myths across 6 jurisdictions

In the UK, many couples mistakenly believe that they acquire similar rights to a married couple after living with their partner after a fixed period of time has elapsed. In an attempt to bust cohabitation myths, Teresa Cullen, partner at international law firm Fladgate, looks at what rights unmarried couples have in several jurisdictions.

Singapore

Further South in Singapore, young couples are offered incentives to marry rather than cohabit, such as subsidised deposits on first homes. Cohabiting couples choosing to live in Singapore would therefore be wise to draw up agreement concerning the division of property and assets in the event of death or separation.
