By Cristian Angeloni, 26 Feb 20

Wealth management firm names regional head, as pensions provider hires chief executive

Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management

The UK-based wealth management firm has promoted Charles Cohen to regional head for the north of England.

He will oversee the offices in Blackpool, Llandudno and Lancaster and will be based in the latter.

In the newly created role, Cohen will be responsible for the investment process, compliance, business development and reporting.

He joined the firm five years ago from Sanlam Private Investments where he was head of private clients in the north of England.

Embark Group

The UK retirement solutions provider has recruited Paul Downing as its chief executive.

He will lead the recently combined executive teams, subject to regulatory approval.

Downing joins from EBS Pensions where he served as a director.

Matthews Asia

The investment firm has hired Yu-Ming Wang as president and global chief investment officer.

He previously held similar positions at Nikko Asset Management.

He will be responsible for the oversight of Matthews Asia’s investment team.

Pictet Wealth Management

The wealth management company has recruited Alain Ucari to head its newly opened private banking branch in Monaco.

He was, until recently, chairman at Julius Baer in the country.

Ucari will lead a team of 10 private bankers to serve clients based in the principality.

Nucleus

The UK-based wrap platform has appointed Alfio Tagliabue as a non-executive director, effective immediately.

He was previously chief executive of Sanlam Investments UK since 2017.

Tagliabue replaces Jeremy Gibson, who stepped down.

LGT Vestra

The wealth management company has promoted six people to partner.

They are: Phil Beard, Danielle Connelly, David Brooks, Jonathan Scotchbrook, Michael Miss and Phoebe Stone.

Hawksford

Four members of staff have been promoted to director at the private client and funds business.

Laura Nevitt, Cherith Fothergill, Melody Tan and Bobby Stirling will lead four different divisions.

Nevitt will become a director of the private client business; Forthergill has been promoted to director and global head of business development and marketing; while Tan will head the finance department, and Stirling will take on the roles of director and global head of client accounting.

Royal London Asset Management

As the firms unveils its global sustainable equity fund, George Crowdy has been named co-manager of the vehicle, alongside Mike Fox, head of sustainable investment.

Before joining RLAM, Crowdy spent the last 10 years at Janus Henderson as part of the global sustainable equity team.

Sparrows Capital

The private investment company has hired Sophie Austen as a senior business developer.

She joins from Netwealth where she served as an intermediary business development manager.

Austen will focus on building and managing client relationships, following the introduction of Sparrows Capital’s SCore MPS, a low-cost capped fee model portfolio service for financial advisers.
