PEOPLE MOVES: Julius Baer, GSB Capital, Bank Syz

Private bank names group head of Middle East & Africa, while Dubai wealth firm hires FPI veteran

Julius Baer

The Swiss wealth manager has hired Yvan Wicht as group head Middle East & Africa, based in Geneva.

He has been at Deutsche Bank since 2011 where he held several leadership roles, and most recently was global head wealth investment advisory for Middle East & Africa.

GSB Capital

The Dubai-based wealth firm has named Dean Kemble as a managing partner for financial planning.

He joins from Friends Provident International (FPI), where he was head of distribution. He first started at Friends Provident in 2001 and then moved to Dubai to work at FPI in 2007.

Bank Syz

The private banking arm of Syz Group has recruited Charles-Henry Monchau as chief investment officer.

He will lead both the discretionary portfolio management and advisory departments of the bank.

Monchau was previously at FlowBank where he served as chief investment and commercial officer.

Robeco

Karin van Baardwijk will become chief executive of the international asset manager from 1 January 2022.

She is currently deputy chief executive and chief operating officer at the firm, and will succeed Gilbert Van Hassel who has been in the job since September 2016.

Van Baardwijk joined Robeco in 2006 and has held various senior positions.

Quilter Cheviot

Matt Sullivan has taken on the role of head or professional services at the investment arm of Quilter.

He will be responsible for supporting Quilter to build specialist services to help private clients of lawyers, accountants and financial advisers.

Sullivan joins from Brewin Dolphin, where he held a similar position.

Regatta Strategic Partners

Andrew Dobson has joined the private investment firm as a director.

He spent nearly 13 years at QB Partners, where he most recently was a partner and director of business development.

Capital Group

The investment firm has strengthened its ESG team with a senior hire.

Belinda Gan has taken on the role of ESG investment director, Europe and Asia client group, based in London.

Most recently, she was at Schroders UK, where she served as an investment director for global sustainability.

Cazenove Capital

Schroders’ UK wealth management business has expanded some of its regional teams.

Jennifer Crowley has become a portfolio director in the Birmingham office, after spending the last decade at Coutts advising high net worth families and entrepreneurs in the Midlands.

Lee Sweeting joined as a wealth planning director in the Bristol branch. He was at Smith & Williamson for the past 14 years.

James Bates has been named assistant portfolio manager in London, after working as a consultant.

C Hoare & Co

Carl Brian has become a senior relationship manager at the private bank.

He will be responsible for growing C Hoare & Co’s presence in Yorkshire and the north east region.

Most recently, Brian held a similar position at NatWest Group.

Personal Finance Society

The PFS has appointed Alasdair Walker, managing director of Aitkenhead & Walker, as chair of its PFS Power panel, which shapes the professional body’s CPD content.

He will be joined by Gretchen Betts, managing director of Magenta Financial Planning; Carla Brown, managing director of Oakmere Wealth Management; Matthew Aitchison, managing director of Clearvision Financial Planning; and Neil Parker, chief executive of Joslin Rhodes.
