Top expat cities for pay and lifestyle – survey

HSBC’s expat explorer survey has named the top global cities for expats, covering a range of subjects including jobs and pay, education, leisure and living costs.

Leisure

Sydney ranked top for leisure with expats highlighting a more active lifestyle. Vancouver ranked second with skiing and outdoor pursuits. Beaches and hiking put Los Angeles 3rd.

Oslo and Zurich where the only European cities to make the top 10.

Living costs

Bangkok rates highest for value for money among expats. Respondents rate the Thai capital for its food and cost of living.

Expats earn on average $119,600 but still reported higher disposable income and savings. Berlin, Prague, Kuala Lumpur and Cairo are also rated for their also affordability.

Globally 57% of expats said they had more disposable income. Qatar was ranked top for boosting disposable income followed by south Korea, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland and Kuwait.
