US in the news: Life insurer makes c-suite change

A round-up of the latest people moves and M&A deals in North America

People Moves

Protective Life Corporation (Protective)

The wholly owned US subsidiary of Dai-ichi Life Holdings has named Mike Temple as vice chairman and chief operating officer.

Temple, who joined Protective in 2012 and most recently served as vice chairman of finance and risk, has 34 years of experience in the life and health insurance industries.

He will have responsibilities for the life, annuity and asset protection segments.

As part of this changes, Steve Walker, who has served as executive vice president and chief financial officer, will continue his role with expanded responsibilities to include all accounting, finance and risk functions.

BNY Mellon Wealth Management

The firm has appointed David Ogburn as a senior client strategist in San Francisco.

He will report to regional president Thomas Fickinger and will be focused on growing BNY Mellon Wealth Management’s business in Northern California.

Ogburn was most recently an Executive Director at JP Morgan Private Bank.

Fiduciary Trust Company International

A global wealth manager and wholly owned subsidiary of Franklin Templeton has named Christine Brown as trust counsel and managing director.

She will provide fiduciary and wealth planning advice to clients in Northern California.

Brown has more than 15 years of experience advising high net worth individuals and families in Northern California on all areas of estate planning, wealth transfer, and philanthropy.

Prior to Fiduciary Trust, she was most recently an executive director and senior wealth strategist in the Western division of UBS Financial Services.

Apollon Wealth Management

The South Carolina-based RIA has hired Steven Mills as chief operating officer.

Mills brings more than 20 years of financial services experience to his role, including leadership positions in wealth management, broker dealer operations and risk management.

Robertson Stephens Wealth Management

The San Francisco-based independent wealth management firm has appointed Erik Boe as principal and managing director to launch its Sun Valley, Idaho office.

Boe joins Robertson Stephens from RBC Wealth Management.

Joining Boe at Robertson Stephens are his RBC colleagues, Julie Steinman and Brian Post.

Sanctuary Wealth

Jules Scruggs will join the global wealth management firm as vice president based in Austin, Texas.

Most recently, Scruggs served as a senior vice president of World Equity Group, where he worked primarily in the fixed income oil and gas sector.

Clarus Group

Kaysi Gordon has joined the firm as a wealth manager and member of the firm’s investment committee.

Gordon was previously part of a 13-person team at UBS, where she spent almost 17 years.

She will work out of Clarus Group’s New York City branch and will focus on financial planning, asset management, and financial coaching for individuals and families.

Level Four Advisory Services

Josh Hampton has joined the sports and entertainment (LFSE) division of the firm.

Hampton was recently accepted into the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) programme governing financial advisers to NFL players.

He will be responsible for financial planning, risk tolerance, and asset management with clients in the NFL.

Hampton has served as a wealth Adviser with Level Four Advisory Services since 2011.

Catalyst Private Wealth

Matt Faubion has joined the firm as wealth strategist to lead the team’s financial planning services and planning strategy.

He will also be working directly with clients on wealth transfers, charitable giving, risk management, business succession and legacy planning.

Prior to Catalyst, Faubion was previously at Destination Wealth Management, where he was a senior wealth adviser.

M&A

Kestra Private Wealth Services

The registered investment adviser subsidiary of Kestra Financial has partnered with the five-person team of Three Bridges Planning.

Based in Melbourne, Florida, Three Bridges Planning collectively oversee approximately $175m (£137m, €155m) in assets

The director of portfolio management, Dennis Laughlin, is the father of Brian Laughlin, who is director of financial planning.

Client relationship manager Judy McCarthy is the mother of Brendan McCarthy, director of wealth management.

The other team member is Samantha Verzi, who serves as the team’s client service expert and has 11 years of experience in financial services.
