Isle of Man FSA warns scam letter uses its logo, authority and names company

By Mark Battersby, 1 May 24

The claims were ‘false and the authority would never make the declarations exampled within the document’

The Isle of Man Financial Services Authority has issued a warning about a scam letter using its logo and authority with the intention of gaining “illicit funds from innocent individuals”.

The statement on 1 May was to warn members of the public against dealing with unauthorised financial service providers, the island regulator said.

It had become aware of the fraudulent letter, a redacted copy of which is duplicated here was “an amateurish attempt at using Authority logos and claims that the offered financial arrangements are in some way authorised or overseen by the Authority. The claims are false and the Authority would never make the declarations exampled within the document”.

The statement continued: “The genuine Isle of Man company mentioned within the letter has not consented to their details being used and have no connection whatsoever to the author of the document.”

The regulator further said any persons who are already involved in any dealings with the individuals distributing the aforementioned correspondence should consider notifying their local Police, bringing to their attention the contents of this notice.
