Former Zurich UAE general manager dies

By Robbie Lawther, 1 Dec 20

He was chief underwriting officer at Emirates Insurance Company for four years

Jeremy Baggott, the former Zurich UAE general manager, has died at his home in the UK after a long battle with cancer, Emirates Insurance Company (EIC) said on its Linkedin page.

He was named chief underwriting officer at EIC in 2014 and stayed in the role until 2018 when he retired due to ill health.

Baggott had over 20 years’ experience in the insurance industry, covering underwriting, sales, strategic planning and people management.

He moved to Dubai with AIG to set up its private client operation in September 2007, and joined Zurich as head of its high net worth (HNW) division in March 2011, and then became general manager for its UAE operation in July 2012.

‘Infectious’ humour

EIC said in a statement on its Linkedin page: “During his time with us, Jeremy was a much loved and respected figure in the company and in the wider market too. He brought to his job all of the fine qualities of his personality – first his strong understanding of our industry and customer needs but even more importantly his enormous energy, drive and enthusiasm.

“His humour was infectious, and his charm disarmed everyone, seemingly with no effort. Jeremy was one of those people who always made you feel good every time you spoke to him.

“The news of his illness seemed unbelievable for a man of such impressive fitness and vitality. Yet he bore his diagnosis and treatment with the same optimistic and upbeat approach that he brought to every other aspect of his life.

“Tragically, his cancer was serious and the outlook was never encouraging – but we know Jeremy will have been grateful that he was able to spend his last days at home in the UK surrounded by his wonderful wife and daughters.”
