Zurich Int’ls Jopp sees growth in protection market

24 Nov 15

Zurich International Life’s head of market management MEA, Walter Jopp, sees huge growth potential in the protection market, especially the non-resident Indian (NRI) segment.

A recent arrival in the Middle East, Jopp explained to International Adviser the different opportunities available to Zurich in the region.

“In Hong Kong where I was based it was a large mainland Chinese population that were purchasing their products in the Hong Kong market. Here we’ve got a large number of expats, a lot of western expats, a lot of NRIs. And that’s a segment that we’re targeting and trying to grow.”

It’s on the protection business side that Jopp sees the greatest opportunity: “Our internal studies have shown that most of expats are underinsured. And in a market such as the UAE where, if something happens to the main breadwinner, the family need to be protected more so because they have to leave the country.”
