‘Disruption for advisers’: The outlook for platforms in 2022

“Inter-generational wealth transfer is not a new concept, but it’s going to be a hot topic for platforms, not just in 2022 but for the next 20-plus years. According to the ONS, the vast majority of household wealth (~80%) is held by the over-45s, with a good chunk of this tied up in the housing market – the average UK house price reached £270,ooo ($357,180, €315,841) before the end of 2021.

“Driven by both the pandemic and other economic drivers, this movement of wealth between generations will become an even more prevalent trend in 2022, with a range of tax efficient measures needing to be put in place by platforms to take advantage. One example of this is qualifying investments, such as Aim listed shares, available on the likes of the Ascentric/M&G Wealth platform.”
