I’m 65, and I’ve spent over 40 years in financial markets as an entrepreneur, investment banker, and now Executive Chairman of TEAM Plc, a London Stock Exchange–listed wealth and asset management group. www.teamplc.co.uk My career has been about building things — businesses, teams, platforms — often across multiple jurisdictions. But I’ve never believed numbers tell the whole story. Finance, like life, only makes sense when you connect it to human behaviour, history, and philosophy. That’s why I often draw on metaphors from sport, particularly motor racing, economics, or even paradoxes to explain what’s really going on beneath the surface. I’m blunt about what I see: I don’t have patience for buzzwords, clichés, or lazy thinking. Whether it’s ESG, financial advice, or the way society measures productivity. I prefer evidence, precision, and honesty. That said, I always aim to bring people with me — clients, shareholders, colleagues, or readers — by making complex ideas relatable and clear. I’ve lived a full and sometimes tough life. Racing cars, recovering from mistakes, reflecting on relationships, and running businesses have all taught me the same lesson: judgement, trust, and resilience matter more than titles or appearances. At this stage, I’m less interested in conforming to other people’s systems and more focused on building my own. Don’t waste time in someone else’s zoo — build your own.
