Paul Thompson is co-founder and CEO of Utmost Group.
Having founded the Group in 2013 with Ian Maidens, the Group has achieved significant growth through a series of strategic acquisitions, including parts of AXA, Generali, Equitable Life, Quilter International, and most recently, Lombard International in December 2024.
These acquisitions have expanded Utmost’s assets under administration to over £100 billion and broadened its global footprint across Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, and Asia.
Previously Paul was a Managing Director, Investment Banking at Merrill Lynch between 1997 – 2002, CEO at Resolution Life between 2002 – 2007 and Partner at Pamplona Capital Management a private equity company with a focus on UK and European financial services.
Paul is a proud Yorkshireman and though he is not known for undertaking many media activities in an interview with IA’s sister title Investment International in 2021, he revealed that “to have a interesting career that you should have five different careers and I’m now in my fifth”.
