William Thorp serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Standard Bank Offshore Group, a role he has held since 2015. A fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, Thorp has over two decades with Standard Bank, starting around 2003.

His career includes serving as Finance Director for the bank’s Russian operations in Moscow, Global Finance Director for Investment Banking in London and Johannesburg, and Chief Financial Officer for the Offshore Group after relocating to Jersey in 2012.

Under his leadership, the group operates across Jersey, Isle of Man, and Mauritius, with teams in London and Johannesburg, employing about 400 staff and offering banking, investment, trust, and fiduciary services to international clients.

Thorp emphasizes leveraging Standard Bank’s African roots for continental business opportunities, focusing on quality service and growth. His appointment in 2015 followed Mark Hucker’s departure, and he has been recognized for driving prosperity in the offshore sector. As CEO, Thorp oversees a team including island heads and chief officers, ensuring the group’s employee value proposition centres on career development.
