Intermediary misconduct tops HK regulator investigations

By Kirsten Hastings, 22 Jun 16

The Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) investigated 226 intermediaries for misconduct in 2015/16, up from 187 the previous year.

The Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) investigated 226 intermediaries for misconduct in 2015/16, up from 187 the previous year.

Complaints fall

Despite the increase in the number of investigations, the number of complaints against intermediaries and about market activities dipped in 2015/16 to 2,056.

However, it should be noted that the 2,056 complaints made during the year was the second highest number of complaints over the past five years and considerably higher than in previous year.

Prosecutions

The number of prosecutions against persons and corporations subject to enforcement action fell steadily between 2011/12 and 2014/15 and appear to have stabilised in 2015/16.

In contrast, civil proceedings rose during the first four years in question, but again stabilised somewhat last year.
