OMI warns UAE bulls on ‘bumpy ride’

By International Adviser, 2 Nov 17

Old Mutual International is warning of the risks in the attitude shift after researchers discovered UAE investors are more focused on achieving investment gains than on protecting against losses.

Risk embraced

According to the report UAE investors now appear to have less understanding of investment risk.

The amount of investors with a good or strong understanding of investment risk has fallen from 64% in 2016 to 56% in 2017.

Less investors now seek to avoid investment risk and the number of investors who consider themselves risk averse has halved, falling from 32% in 2016 to just 15% in 2017.

More investors now consider themselves to be either risk neutral or risk takers, which shows more investors may be willing to accept investment risk; a dangerous move if they don’t understand it, according to Evans.
