PEOPLE MOVES: Nucleus, J Safra Sarasin, JO Hambro

By Kirsten Hastings, 17 Mar 17

Nucleus has appointed a successor to chairman Paul Bradshaw who died in January. J Safra Sarasin is targeting ultra-high net worths in Asia with a new division and managing director, while JO Hambro Capital Management prepares to bid farewell to an investment management veteran.

Nucleus

Following the death of Nucleus chairman Paul Bradshaw in January, the company has named Angus Samuels as his successor. Samuels has been a non-executive director at the wrap platform since 2006 and has more than 30 years’ experience in the UK financial services industry.

David Ferguson, founder and chief executive of Nucleus, said: “Paul introduced me to Angus in 2005 and a year or so later he backed us to get Nucleus up and running, with Paul assuming the non-executive chairman position he held until his untimely passing.

“Angus is the only other person who has been there for the whole Nucleus story and I am particularly pleased that he has agreed to succeed Paul as non-executive chairman.”

J Safra Sarasin

J Safra Sarasin has appointed Vinay Gandhi as managing director and chief executive of its new ultra-high net worth (UHNW) Asia division. Based in Singapore, Gandhi will report to Enid Yip, the bank’s Asia chief executive.

Before joining J Safra Sarasin, Gandhi was managing director and regional marketing manager for UHNWs at UBS for south-east Asia.

JO Hambro Capital Management

John Wood, lead manager of the JOHCM UK Opportunities Fund, is to retire from the investment management industry on 30 September 2017. Wood has worked for JOHCM for 11 years during a career spanning 26 years.

Rachel Reutter and Michael Ulrich, co-managers of the JOHCM UK Opportunities team, will assume lead responsibilities for the fund and all segregated portfolios, with Wood continuing as normal until the end of September to ensure an orderly transition.

Generali

Aldo Mazzocco has been named chief executive and general manager of Generali Real Estate, effective from June 2017. He is currently serving as head of real estate at Italian investment bank Cassa Depositi e Prestiti.

Tilney Group

UK investment management group Tilney has made two new appointments to its business development team.

Morad Bhatti has joined in Glasgow from Verbatim Asset Management where he worked as regional development manager for Scotland. He has previously worked at London & Colonial, Barclays Wealth and Morgan Stanley.

Eleanor Wotherspoon has joined Tilney in Liverpool. She joins the company from Smith & Williamson where she was a business development manager.

PortfolioMetrix

Discretionary investment manager PortfolioMetrix has expanded added John Croft to its team as business development consultant to drive its European expansion.

Covering mainland Europe, the role has been created to support the firm’s growth plans outside the existing territories of UK, South Africa and Ireland during 2017.

Croft has worked in financial services for over 30 years with companies such as HSBC GAM, Sanlam Global, Deutsche AM and M&G Group.

Chartered Insurance Institute

CII has appointed Matthew Connell as director of policy and engagement – a role covering the operations of both the CII and Personal Finance Society (PFS). Connell commenced his role on 6 March following his most recent position as head of regulatory developments and policy at Zurich.

In the newly created role, he has responsibility for managing the development of the CII and PFS’s policy, public affairs and public relations strategy. He will build on the organisation’s existing policy and research work and drive ongoing engagement with regulators and public bodies.
