PEOPLE MOVES: Standard Life, Quilter Cheviot, Crowe CW

By Kirsten Hastings, 27 Jan 17

Standard Life’s chief executive for UK and Europe Pensions and Savings is to retire, with Quilter Cheviot’s chief executive announcing similar plans. Audit, tax and advisory firm Crowe Clark Whitehill sadly announced on Friday that its national head of private clients has died.

Standard Life

Paul Matthews, chief executive UK & Europe Pensions and Savings, will step down as an executive director on 1 March and retire from the company on 31 August 2017. He joined the firm in 1989 and, following senior roles in distribution and relationship management, was appointed UK chief executive in 2011 and UK & Europe chief executive in 2012.

Barry O’Dwyer, currently chief executive of Standard Life Assurance, will assume Matthews’ responsibilities for the Pension & Savings business and be appointed to the board as an executive director.

He joined Standard Life in 1988 and held various marketing, product development and actuarial roles. From 2008 to 2013 he held senior roles with HBOS and Prudential. Re-joining Standard Life in 2013 as managing director of Workplace and Corporate Pensions, O’Dwyer was appointed to his current role in 2016.

Quilter Cheviot

Quilter Cheviot, part of Old Mutual Wealth (OMW), has announced that chief executive David Loudon is to retire with effect from 30 June 2017.  From that date, he will act as an adviser to the business.

Martin Baines, who was chief executive of Quilter Cheviot from 2003 to 2015 and currently chief investment director of OMW, will resume responsibility for leading the discretionary investment manager from 1 July 2017.

Crowe Clark Whitehill

Tim Norkett, national head of private clients for Crowe Clark Whitehill, has died after a battle with cancer. An integral part of the audit, tax and advisory firm since joining in 1987, Norkett became a partner in 1999.

David Mellor, chief executive of Crowe Clark Whitehill, said: “Tim was a wonderful man and a hugely respected practitioner. He made an enormous contribution to the Private Clients practice and to the wider firm during his 30 years with us. He was both a trusted authority in his field and a loyal and supportive colleague.”

He leaves behind his wife and two daughters.

Eastspring Investments

Andy Yang stepped down as head of insurance relationship for Eastspring Investments in December. He joined Prudential’s Asian asset management business in May 2014 from FWD Group to take up the newly created role.

According to news website Asian Investor, a spokesperson for Eastspring said that Yang will not be replaced.

Generali

Generali Group has appointed Roberto Leonardi as regional officer for Asia. In his new role, Leonardi will report directly to Frédéric de Courtois, chief executive of Global Business Lines & International and be based in the regional hub in Hong Kong.

He has been tasked with growing and managing Generali’s Life and Property & Casualty insurance businesses in Asia. He brings with him over 25 years’ experience in Life and Health businesses across Asia, Europe and South Africa. Prior to joining Generali, he was in Axa Asia where he oversaw Health & Employment Benefits, Protection, Marketing, Digital and Big Data.

Zurich

Zurich Financial Services Australia has appointed Peter Mitchell to the role of national sales manager, retail risk. In this role, Mitchell will report to Kristine Brooks, head of distribution Life and Investments, and take responsibility for driving sales across Zurich’s life insurance product range.

He joins Zurich from State Street, where he was managing director and head of relationship management and had oversight of sales, consultant activities and client services across institutional and retail distribution channels for all listed and unlisted funds.
