PEOPLE MOVES: Standard Life, Quilter Cheviot, Crowe CW

Standard Life’s chief executive for UK and Europe Pensions and Savings is to retire, with Quilter Cheviot’s chief executive announcing similar plans. Audit, tax and advisory firm Crowe Clark Whitehill sadly announced on Friday that its national head of private clients has died.

Standard Chartered

StanChart in Hong Kong has poached three senior private bankers from HSBC ahead of the Chinese New Year.

Teddy Kwong, former market head of Hong Kong with HSBC Global Private Banking, will serve as managing director for private banking. He has been at HSBC for 28 years.

He assumed his new role on 23 January and reports to Vivian Chan, regional head of private banking for Greater China and North Asia.

Peter Lam, former HSBC Private Bank managing director, is now managing director and deputy market head for private banking at StanChart, reporting to Kwong.

James Ling, ex-senior director at HSBC Private Bank, has been brought in as executive director and team leader for private banking, also reporting to Kwong.

Hargreaves Lansdown

Philip Johnson has been appointed chief financial officer of Hargreaves Lansdown, subject to regulatory approvals. He will join the company on 20 February from Jupiter Fund Management, where he is chief financial officer.

Johnson replaces Chris Hill, who also holds the position of deputy chief executive. Hill has been promoted to chief executive, replacing Ian Gorham who will step down as chief executive and from the company’s board following the firm’s interim results and subject to regulatory approval. Gorham will remain an employee of the company until 30 September 2017.

IOMA Group

IOMA Group has bolstered its London office with two new appointments. Gerald Montagu joins as head of tax, with responsibility for enhancing and adding value to the firm’s existing suite of solutions, assisting with tax compliance and risk management.

A trained solicitor, Montagu was previously head of tax and a partner at the London office of Fasken Martineau.

He is joined by Terry Runham, founder of ‘Hailo, the taxi app’, who brings with him a wealth of knowledge and expertise of the technology industry to spearhead IOMA’s InsurTech proposition. Runham spent six years developing one of Europe’s largest tech start-up firms responsible for building the biggest fleet of taxi drivers in London.

Wells Fargo Asset Management

Wells Fargo AM has named Nicolaas Marais as president. In this role, he will take on a broad range of responsibilities including multi-asset class solutions, research, and product management.

Based in San Francisco and London, he will join the firm in this new role on 1 February, reporting to Kristi Mitchem, chief executive officer and head of WFAM. Marais most recently served as head of multi-asset investments and portfolio solutions at Schroders.

RBC Wealth Management

RBC WM has appointed Rohit Bhalla as Singapore-based executive director and team head for the bank’s southeast Asia business. He is responsible for building client relationships and reports to Tho Gea Hong, head of wealth management for southeast Asia.

Before RBC Wealth, Bhalla was senior director and team head for Singapore private banking at ANZ and brings with him 16 years’ experience in financial services.

Candriam Investors Group

Candriam, the pan-European multi-specialist asset manager, has appointed Isabelle Cabie as global head of responsible development and Wim Van Hyfte as global head of responsible investments and research.

In her new role, Cabie will be responsible for the development of the active ownership strategy, promoting SRI and leading Candriam’s Corporate Social Responsibility policy. She brings with her over 20 years’ experience in macroeconomics, institutional portfolio management and sustainable and responsible investments.

Van Hyfte will be responsible for investment research and analysis on sustainability. He joins from the quantitative team at Candriam where he was senior fund manager and SRI specialist. Together with his team, Van Hyfte will play a key role in the creation of new, innovative ESG products and investment solutions.

LGT Vestra

LGT Vestra (Jersey) has appointed Paul Soares as business development director for the Channel Islands. He joins from Brooks Macdonald International where he was head of adviser solutions.

Soares previously worked closely with LGT Vestra’s head of international solutions Rohit Ahluwalia. Together they will further develop the firm’s offshore proposition for advisers.

WisdomTree

Jason Guthrie has been named as director of capital markets for WisdomTree in Europe. He replaces Zach Hascoe who returns to WisdomTree’s headquarters in New York, following his two-and-a-half-year European secondment.

Guthrie will work closely with the firm’s product investors to ensure smooth execution of trades across WisdomTree’s Ucits ETFs and Boost ETPs, throughout Europe, Israel and Latin America.

Concept Group

Concept Group has appointed a director and associate director to expand and develop its Private Client services division, Concept Private, which will specialise in the provision of financial solutions for international ultra-high net worth Individuals.

Marianne Domaille has been appointed director with overall responsibility for the Private Client and Fiduciary team. She was formerly a director and founding member of another Guernsey based trust company.

Andy Bailey was appointed as associate director of Private Clients in December 2016, and will oversee the management and day to day running of the Fiduciary team and will also focus on managing new business for private clients, alongside Domaille.
