Best performing sectors for UK funds in 2017

The results are in – here are the 10 strongest-performing sectors on a total return basis according to the UK’s Investment Association and data from FE Analytics.
The stronger performance from the European Small Companies sector is partly explained by the outcome of the Dutch election in March, which was very much a turning point for investors.
Lowcock remarked: “With a large number of political events occurring in Europe, a lack of confidence in the polls and concerns the populist uprising will spread across Europe putting the future of the EU at stake, the European market has been on pause for much of 2017 as investors weighed up the risks.
“Yes, European equity valuations are attractive but were they worth the risks? Until the results of the Dutch election, investors had decided there were better opportunities elsewhere.”
The IA sector returned 7.54%.
