The worst-performing funds of Q2

While funds invested in oil and gas companies dominated the lists of the best-performing funds in the second quarter, those investing in Latin America found themselves at the bottom of the table.

1. MFS Meridian Latin America

Taking the unwanted honour of the worst-performing fund in the three months to June 30, 2018, is MFS Meridian Latin America which fell 21.9% in sterling terms over the period.

Managed by Jose Luis Garcia at MFS Investment Management, the $22.9m fund sits in the IA Specialist sector, which rose 2.32% over the same period.

At the end of May, the fund’s two biggest sector weightings were to financial services (30.8%) and basic materials (22.22%), while its largest individual holding was in Brazilian financial services company Banco Bradesco, which made up 7.69% of the overall portfolio.
