UK interest in equities is high but so are barriers to entry

There is a healthy appetite in the UK to invest in equities but a lack of knowledge and understanding is preventing Britons from taking advantage of investment opportunities, according to survey of more than 3,000 people from equity crowdfunding platform SyndicateRoom.
More than half (53%) believe their net worth would increase if they invested in equities. Furthermore, 40% said that they would have invested in some IPOs had they known about them.
With three-quarters of individuals surveyed believing that they are better off looking after their own personal finances, rather than using a financial advisor or wealth manager, the public equity markets are missing out on a vital source of retail investment demand.
