PEOPLE MOVES: Holborn, Carrick Wealth, Vanguard

By Kirsten Hastings, 17 Jul 18

Holborn Assets Hong Kong names its chief executive, Carrick Wealth appoints an acquisitions director who comes by way of the UK, Singapore and Dubai, while Vanguard bolsters its ETF Capital Markets team in Europe.

Holborn Assets

Jason Conlin has been promoted to chief executive of Holborn Assets Hong Kong; while Greg Miller, formerly of Capstone, will take up the position of vice president.

Conlin takes over the role previously held by Edward Harris, assuming all responsibilities with immediate effect.

Harris, whose LinkedIn profile states he is currently chief executive of an investment firm he founded in the US, remains with Holborn and will assume a new role that will be announced in the coming weeks, the company said.

Holborn Assets Hong Kong was formed following the acquisition of Globaleye Hong Kong in January, establishing a second Asia operation after Holborn bought Greenwood Consulting in Malaysia in the third quarter of 2017.

Carrick Wealth

Steve Brooks has been named director of acquisitions at Carrick Wealth, effective immediately.

Based in Johannesburg, Brooks has been tasked with bringing in existing books, both international and South Africa-based, in addition to attracting fresh talent to Carrick.

He spent more than 14 years as a financial planner in the UK and is a qualified licensed practitioner with the Monetary Authority of Singapore, having worked for The Henley Group in the city state.

Following his return to London in 2012, he formed The Henley Group UK and played a role in the group’s acquisition by St James’s Place. Brooks was most recently regional director for Credence International in Dubai.

Vanguard

Vanguard has appointed Gregoire Blanc as senior ETF Capital Markets Specialist, reporting to Thomas Bartolacci, head of ETF Capital Markets, Europe.

In this role, Blanc will be a key part of Vanguard’s ETF Capital Markets team, responsible for supporting the liquidity of Vanguard’s products.

He is the latest in a series of senior ETF hires at Vanguard since the start of the year, which includes the appointment in June of Simone Rosti as head of Italy; the hiring of Markus Weis as deputy head of Germany and Austria in February; and Liz Wright, Rahul Thrakar and Christophe Collet joining as senior ETF specialists.

Aegon

Aegon’s fintech partnership in Asia, GoBear, has named Adrian Chng as chief executive. He succeeds Andre Hesselink, who led GoBear from its foundation in 2015.

GoBear was launched in partnership between Aegon and Dutch venture capital fund Walvis. Originally staffed by three people, it now employs over 100.

The start-up has reportedly served over 29 million users, enabling them to compare over 2,000 different personal financial products.

Indosuez Wealth Management

Six bankers have joined Indosuez’s client relationship team in Asia to enhance its offering for high net worth clients.

Joining the Singapore team as relationship managers on the non-resident Indian (NRI) team are Surmit Chaturvedi, from Bank J Sarfa Sarasin, and Poonam Kaur, from HSBC Private Bank.

Alan Mufatti and Sharon Han have also been added to the Singapore team, joining from Bank J Safra Sarasin and Credit Suisse, respectively.

In Hong Kong, Helen Lee and Stephen Ho will focus on the north Asia market as relationship managers.

Hawksford

Corporate, private client and funds business Hawksford has strengthened its executive management team with the appointment of Eric Dolan as head of governance risk and compliance (GRC).

Based in Jersey, Dolan has overall responsibility for the Europe, Middle East and Africa (Emea) region.

He joins from Sanne Group where he held the post of risk director for two years. Prior to this Dolan worked at the Jersey Financial Services Commission (JFSC) for nine years.

For five years, Dolan was the JFSC’s deputy director in Supervisory Operations. He also spent four years as a banking examiner assessing AML/CFT and prudential risks for the commission.
