5) Finsbury Growth & Income Trust

Rounding out the list is Nick Train’s Finsbury Growth & Income Trust, which has been a widely known staple in the investment companies space since launching more than 90 years ago.

Train is often cited as giving the trust a new lease on life when he was appointed lead manager 15 years ago. Since taking the reins, he has run a very tight ship, building a concentrated portfolio of big names from Unilever to Daily Mail and General Trust and rarely letting in new names.

Despite holding some companies with recently questionable performance (Pearson), his trust has soared above peers in the UK equity income sector, returning 17% last year versus the sector’s 14%. Over five years, the Finsbury Growth & Income Trust has returned a staggering 109%.

A full list of the AIC’s most searched for trusts is included on the next slide.
