Best performing sectors for UK funds in 2017

The results are in – here are the 10 strongest-performing sectors on a total return basis according to the UK’s Investment Association and data from FE Analytics.
Despite the tumult leading up to the initiation of the UK’s divorce proceedings from the European Union, the IA’s Europe Including UK sector squeezed into the top ten list, producing a total return of 5.85%.
Throughout the period, there were promising signs that European companies had picked themselves up by their bootstraps and overcome the earnings recession.
The UK economy also showed signs of resilience, as it continued to reap the benefits from weaker sterling. But, these positive gains were more muted as political uncertainty superseded the perceived pros from the currency play.
