Swiss private bank expands India operation

By Robbie Lawther, 24 Jun 20

As Standard Chartered makes c-suite change in the country

Julius Baer Wealth Advisors (India) has bolstered its India team with the hire of six relationship managers during 2020.

Some three professionals joined the team in India over April and May 2020.

Earlier in March this year, Himanshu Bhagat was appointed as head of wealth management at Julius Baer Wealth Advisors (India).

The bank did not give details on the other hires.

NRI team growth

Julius Baer also said that it continues to hire across locations to build and “strengthen” its offering for non-resident Indians across the world.

The bank said that it will be exploring its “Global Indian” approach, which allows the firm to serve Indians globally.

Elsewhere, it has also launched tools for relationship managers to efficiently service clients.

The firm is upgrading its online platform and is also adopting more robotics to ensure better, seamless operations.

Fund launch

Ashish Gumashta, chief executive of Julius Baer India said: “To stay one step ahead, we have strengthened our domestic and NRI team capabilities and upgraded our digital infrastructure to meet the evolving needs of our clients.

“Increasingly clients in India are looking for global investment opportunities and to address that need, we have launched the Next Generation feeder fund that enables Indian clients to capture the megatrends and next investment themes emerging across the globe.

“Going forward, we will continue to enhance our product suite and upgrade our delivery channels to offer a holistic wealth management proposition to high net worth clients in the country.”

Standard Chartered

In other news, Standard Chartered Bank India has named Gaurav Maheshwari as its chief financial officer.

He has taken over from Subhradeep Mohanty, who was promoted to chief financial officer of the Africa and Middle East (AME) region.

This is his second stint at Standard Chartered Bank, he previously spent in 17 years in various roles in the finance team.

In his career, he has also worked with Reuters India and Coca-Cola India.
